The "Watch Your
Car" program is a nationally recognized anti-auto theft
program.
The
“Watch Your Car” program is a two part Anti-Auto theft
program.
The
first part is a Decal program where reflective Watch Your
Car decals are placed on the front and back of the vehicle.
The owner of the car, by placing these decals on there
vehicle, simply are stating that they typically do not
operate their vehicle between the hours of 1:00 am and 5:00
am, and that if the police should see this vehicle on the
road during these hour, they may stop the vehicle to
determine who is operating the vehicle and that they did not
steal the vehicle. These decals also inform a potential
thief of this and that it is a federal crime to remove these
stickers with out the owners’ permission.

Decal)
(Rear Window Decal)
The
second part of the program is V.I.N. etching. This is were
the police take the Vehicle Identification Number (which is
individual to each vehicle) and acid etch it into all the
windows on the motor vehicle. The purpose being that most
cars (especially older cars) that are stolen by professional
auto thieves are stolen to be broken down into parts for
resale such as at chop shops. By acid etching the V.I.N.
number into all the glass of the vehicle, the major parts
(doors, windows) are worthless to the thief because now the
thief also has to replace the glass.

(Officer Jesse Drane applying the stencil and Officer Al
Gazerro
applies the acid which will burn the VIN number into
the glass)
Participation
in the V.I.N. etching portion of the program will give most
vehicle owners a reduction in their comprehensive portion of
their auto insurance premium, often times up to 20%.
