The Police Department shall strictly adhere to the city's equal opportunity policy that prohibits discriminations or harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, veteran's status, marital status, non-disqualifying physical or mental handicap, and political affiliation.
 
The practice of equal employment is applied in all phases of police department operations, including employment practices and contact with all members of the public. Department employees will not exhibit a condescending attitude or direct any derogatory terms toward any person in any manner. The Police Department is prohibited by law and by the Police Department General Order 92-0001 from discrimination of any type.
