An innovative program often copied but
never duplicated. This program has been well received in the
community. The program is run by the Brockton Police Dept.
Community Education Unit and uses
All Star Identification
Systems Software and Equipment by Eltron, Panasonic and
Cross Match.

The program provides parents with a
credit card sized ID card of their children that has a
digital photo of them, statistical info, and a digital thumb
print of
their child.
The card is then given to the parent of the
child to keep in a safe place in case
anything should ever happen to the child. It is suggested
that parents keep this ID card with their drivers license. Most parents have a file at home with the child's
information but what do you do if your away from home, out
of town or at the mall. Time is of the essence. Having this
card provides an immediate picture, description and print.
The program is being used as part of
our community policing efforts and can be found at community
events, shopping centers and the Brockton Fair. The program
is often located
in the Brockton Police Dept.'s Mobile Precinct Bus.
An additional benefit of the program is
allowing police and child interactions in a positive aspect.
Helping children to understand the police are their friend
and here to help them.

Community Embraces Child ID Program
When
a child wanders off, it's a parent's worst nightmare come
true. Parents in Brockton, MA, are a bit more prepared to
deal with that potentially terrifying situation thanks to an
innovative child identification program offered by the
Brockton Police Department.
Funded
by a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant, the police
department's mobile precinct bus travels to
community events throughout Brockton providing families with
an opportunity to obtain a free photo and fingerprint
identification card of their children.
The
card includes the child's photo, fingerprint, height,
weight, hair and eye color and date of issue. Parents are
encouraged to keep this card with them at all times. If the
parents should ever become separated from their child, all
the information they need to assist in a search and help
others identify the missing child is at their fingertips.
You'll
find Officer Gazerro and his mobile studio at such events as
the annual summer Brockton Fair or supermarket safety day in
the Walmart parking lot. Officer Gazerro said "I just
pack up my laptop, a printer and my tripod and I'm ready to
go," said Officer Gazerro.
Brockton's
child identification program has been well received by the
local community. "At every event we attend, there's a
line outside the bus from the time we open the doors until
we close up," said Gazerro. "'In fact, in just
four hours, we prepared cards for 110 kids."
